Analysts who blame President Mugabe for the economic meltdown have failed to realize one critical point – he ran out of ideas to fix the economy a long time ago.

Any analysis of the Zimbabwe situation assuming that he can revive the national economy is comparable to a study of the ostrich predicated on the expectation the bird will fly.

“All the analysts who were interviewed put the blame for the country’s escalating political and economic crisis at the door of President Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF, saying the ruling party had more appetite for its mindless factional and succession wars than resolving Zimbabwe’s myriad challenges and advancing the lives of long-suffering citizens,” reported the Daily News.

One has to question the competence of these analysts who continue to blame President Mugabe for the country’s economic problems.

To blame the economic crisis on Zanu PF’s “mindless factional and succession wars” is nonsense. The party did not have any of these problems before 2008, for example, and yet the nation sunk into even greater depths, even these analysts would accept.

President Mugabe and Zanu PF ran out of ideas of how to manage the nation’s economy a long, long time ago.

The nation has been fighting for regime change for the last 15 years precisely because the people know the Zanu PF economic tank was empty and has been empty for years now.

What the nation should be concerned about is first of all why the nation has failed to achieve regime change, especially during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when all that was required was to implement the democratic reforms agreed in the 2008 GPA.

As to why not even one reform was implemented in five years of the GNU; we have the corrupt and incompetent MDC to thank for that!

The second and immediate concern is how the nation is going to get these reforms implemented now because without the reforms and free elections there is no way the nation is ever going to remove Zanu PF from office.

“In 2008 we had our own currency to play with, though it was valueless, but this time around we have the US dollar which is hard to get for both the cash-strapped government and the people. Unemployment is also currently much, much higher than in 2008 and getting worse,” said Maxwell Saungweme.

I have heard of talking about no end about everything except the elephant in the room but the suggestion of bringing back the Z$ takes the biscuit! President Mugabe and Zanu PF’s economic fuel tank is empty; they are back in power only because MDC failed to implement the reforms to stop the tyrant rigging elections. We must implement the reforms and get rid of President Mugabe and Zanu PF; they are the elephant in the Zimbabwe house.

Get rid of the elephant and the problem of ticks, dandruff, etc. will go with the beast!

It is fair to say by the late 1990s the people of Zimbabwe had reached a consensus that President Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies were corrupt and incompetent, and therefore will never deliver mass economic prosperity; and were politically oppressive, and therefore would never allow free and fair elections and regime change.
