Man charged with murder of Zimbabwean nurse in the UK
MANCHESTER – A Zimbabwean man has been charged with the murder of Rochdale nurse Miriam Nyazema.
Josphat Mutekedza, 35, of no fixed address, has been charged with murder and firearms offences.
He is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court today.
A 45-year-old man who was also arrested has been released without charge.
Police were called to reports of a disturbance on Shawclough Way in Rochdale at 9.50pm on Wednesday.
They had received reports of a man with a gun and of shots being fired.
Miriam Nyazema, 35, was found with stab wounds.
A police cordon was set up around the area, only allowing access to residents who live in houses within the sealed off zone.
She died later at hospital.
Residents in the quiet suburb have spoken of their shock.
Paige Pedgrift, who lives on Shawclough Way, said earlier: “It was so traumatic.
“I saw five police vans, lots of ambulances and the helicopter. I’ve not been to sleep all night, I was so frightened.
“There’s never any trouble around here, it’s always really nice and quiet.” Manchester Evening News
