Director suspended over ‘Tuku Dance’

HARARE – The director of Training at Progressive Insurance Brokers was allegedly suspended after attending a church function while on sick leave.

Fanuel Chiweshe, 52, claims to have been temporarily relieved of his duties on June 17 after he attended a church function on May 30.

The church event that Fanuel attended was captured by the Sunday Mail on June 7.

The insurance company refused to comment on the issue.

Fanuel confirmed that he got relieved of his duties after he went to a church function.

“Yes, it’s true. I got suspended after I went to a church function while on sick leave.

“I don’t want to talk much about the issue; it’s stressing me out,” he said.

The victim’s daughter, Tatendaishe Chiweshe, 24, said the way they treated her father is intolerable.

“I am bitter; my father has been so loyal to the company. Is it now constitutionally wrong for a person to attend church after a doctor has issued him a certification of sick leave?” she said.

In the picture, Fanuel is seen on the dance floor together with Oliver Mtukudzi and Reverend Aaron Makiwa.

“When my father went on sick leave, no one even bothered to check on him, the only time someone from Progressive Insurance phoned him was when some guy was questioning him about the newspaper picture,” she said.

Progressive Insurance Public Relations Manager, John Nkathazo refused to give H Metro a comment.

“I am sorry, I can’t give you a comment. I know nothing about that issue,” he said before hanging up. H Metro
