Double joy for Macheso

By Sophia Chese and Tawanda Marwizi

HARARE – At a time when he is fighting internal band wars that have affected his Orchestra Mberikwazvo outfit, Alick Macheso has something to smile about.

The musician’s first born Sharon gave birth to a baby girl on Wednseday at Belvedere Maternity Home, a week after his second born Esau was blessed with a son.

So, away from workplace pressure, Macheso is finding joy and solace in the arrival of his grandchildren who have been named after their grandparents.

Sharon’s daughter was named Nyadzisai, after Macheso’s wife while Esau’s son is called Alick (he becomes “Alick Macheso III” since the musician’s son with ex-wife Tafadzwa Mapako also shares the name).

Sharon wedded Kudakwashe Munetsi last year, but the marriage has been rocky.

Their conflict spilled to the courts when Sharon sought divorce but they are believed to have settled their differences.

When The Herald Entertainment visited Macheso’s home in Waterfalls yesterday, Baba Sharo as he is fondly known, could not hide his joy over the new developments.

“Children are a blessing and it is every parent’s wish to see his grandchildren,” he said.

The musician said his daughter was still in hospital and would be back home next week.

The “Tafadzwa” hit maker said as a father he did not oppose the naming of the children.

“I arrived at the maternity home only to hear that the child was named after my wife. At the same time Esau named his son after me,” he said.

After visiting the musician, this publication made a follow up to Sharon’s husband Kudakwashe Munetsi’s place in Chitungwiza.

Unfortunately Munetsi was not around and efforts to reach him through the phone were fruitless.

However, on his Facebook page Munetsi could not hide his joy posting the pictures of the baby.

“I can’t hide my joy. I love my family hate it or love it we are the best,” he noted before posting the picture of the newly born baby.

Sources said the two were settling their differences.

“I think those were frustrations during those first days of their marriage but they are seeing each other and he was one of the first people to go and see the child at the hospital,” said the source.

Sharon and Munetsi had a heated argument that spilled into courts last year two months after their colourful wedding at Pakare Paye in Norton.

For sometime, they were on separation and were both staying at their parent’s homes before deciding to iron out their differences.

The birth of Macheso’s two grandchildren should bring relief to the musician who has been at loggerheads with his management over misuse of funds.

Macheso has fallen out with his founding manager William Tsandukwa a few week after firing his assistant manager Jatiel Machanja.

The misuse of funds in the band has affected the operations of the outfit at a time when the musician is racing against time to record his overdue album. The Herald
