MAKUTI – A Zimbabwe National Army bus carrying officer cadets crashed near Makuti in Mashonaland West Province, killing two recruits and a member of staff on the spot.

Director Army Public Relations Lieutenant Colonel Alphios Makotore confirmed the accident saying several other officer cadets were injured.

“The Zimbabwe National Army regrets to announce that its luxury coach ferrying Regular Officer Cadets and staff was involved in a fatal crash this morning,” he said.

“The accident happened near Makuti at the 300km peg along the Harare Chirundu Road.

“The cadets were en-route to the training exercise area in the Zambezi Valley and Makuti general area.

“Two officer cadets and a member of staff died on the spot and several were injured.”

He did not reveal the number of those injured.

Lt Col Makotore said names of the deceased would be announced when their next of kin have been informed.

The injured were airlifted to Karoi and Kariba Hospitals.
