LONDON – Hundreds of disgruntled fans were again turned away from the Dunstable Leisure Centre on Saturday evening after the venue for the Tocky Vibes show filled up within two hours of the doors being opened at 9pm.
The visiting Zimdancehall sensation proved such a popular draw both his shows in Leicester and Luton saw full houses and fans being turned away at the door. With commotion at the door police had to be called in to ensure order.
Over the weekend Promoters Phab Entertainment were receiving some big stick for not having got bigger venues given Tocky’s popularity in and outside Zimbabwe.
Joab Mugugu from Phab Entertainment told Nehanda Radio, “Such is the lottery of music promotion. We never imagined that an artist coming for the first time to the UK could pull this sort of crowd. We promise to get a bigger and better venue for fans next time.”
There was also to be some mumblings of discontent over what some felt was a poor PA system. But once Tocky Vibes rode a somewhat subdued opening 5 minutes, he picked up the tempo and rocked the crowd with hits like Chii Nemi, Mhai, Kure KweGava and the song of the moment ‘Tocky Ayenda Nenyika’.
But the adulation for Tocky Vibes was there for all to see as the artist was showered with money on stage by his fans.
It was clearly a huge payday for the singer who joked that he was now getting more money from the fans on stage than he was getting from the promoter.
