CAPS UNITED say they will take their time to find the right coach to lead the team in the wake of the sudden resignation of Taurai Mangwiro and his assistants last week.
Mangwiro was unveiled as Harare City FC coach yesterday.
The Green Machine conceded that Mangwiro’s resignation, and the decision by all the members of his backroom staff to leave, had left them in a quandary.
Club spokesperson Joyce Kapota yesterday said they will not rush to appoint a new coach.
“We have to be looking for a coach but we are not under any pressure whatsoever. It might not be even this week,” said Kapota.
“We don’t have names as yet, we just need to make a sober decision as a club. Of course, (Mangwiro’s resignation) affected us but we have to make a sober decision.”
Kapota said they needed a coach who could win them the league championship once again.
CAPS United have been searching for their first league title in nine years.
“We are looking for someone who runs with the CAPS United vision, someone who will steer our ship in the right direction and preserve our legacy and history,” said Kapota.
“We are not going to advertise, we will use our own means and channels. We really appreciate the work he (Mangwiro) did because when he came we were number seven and last year we were number five and number three this year. So, we really appreciate the work he has done and we hope the coaches coming next will win us the league.”
Kapota said they are hoping to have appointed the new coach by the end of this month.
CAPS United also face a players’ exodus as there is speculation that most of their senior players are disgruntled and are likely to leave for greener pastures. Some of the players who could leave are goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube, Dominic Chungwa, Tapiwa Khumbuyani and Kelvin Bulaji.
Dube, Chungwa and Bulaji have been linked with a move to rivals Dynamos. Tendai Samanja, the best player at the Green Machine this year, told our sister newspapper, H-Metro, that he will not be playing for CAPS United next season. Samanja is expected to join FC Platinum. The Herald
