Crossing the Rubicon: Hand the struggle back to the grassroots base, workers, peasants and students

By Elijah Mangwengwende

After cheating Zimbabweans into a ‘resounding’ victory on 31st July 2013, we all awaited for the ZIMASSET miracle to solve the political, economic and social standing of our country among nations.

Gushungo failed dismally so far to deliver anything for millions of Zimbabweans who he claimed democratically elected him and gave him the mandate to lead. Congratulatory messages flew from all over the place especially from among the bootlickers in chief within ZANU PF, we all hoped for prosperity, we were promised fish but now given snakes, in summary my fellow Zimbabweans we were lied to of which that is not the purpose of this article.

What is of great importance right now is how the original movers of the democratic struggle in 1999 are best placed to reclaim their political power from the bourgeois elements who have voluptuous appetite for donor funds and are power hungry.

They decided to jump ship and abandon the people, now dining with the Lucifers of our nation, calling themselves names like Oranges, lemons, renewed oranges etc yes it was a grand plan from ZANU PF to bury and destroy aspirations of the ever suffering citizens. History will harshly judge them.

People’s Struggle:

It is of no consequence that the Congress is starting on my birthday. It is not my intention to divulge that people from all corners of Zimbabwe asked me to serve in some capacity and humbly accepted, who am I to refuse to serve my country, who am I to refuse to emancipate my country from the dictatorship.

Just like many democrats who put their necks on the line, I do believe an opportunity is on the horizon to correct the ills and havoc caused by the bourgeoisies who unsuccessfully tried in 2005 to handover the party to ZANU PF; they tried again in 2014 but failed.

I want to assure Sekuru Banda in Mabvuku that I heard your call, not to forget Mai Rondodzi in Chipinge, also Chief Zezai in Mashava, I heard your cries, I humbly accept and am grateful.

Fifteen years elapsed, since the students, workers, peasants and the downtrodden vowed to take a democratic path to claim back our motherland from the vultures, yet seems nothing materialise we are still stuck with the same President, same old policies and same old songs and same old brutal tactics.

I don’t want to remind people or mention about violence, death of political opponents, rigging of elections, unlawful imprisonments, record numbers of PHD holders, printing of bearer cheques etc because it will destroy and distort the relevance of my article.

I don’t think it is necessary to mention Welshman Ncube who led a rebellion against the people’s project at the same time I don’t think it’s necessary to bring the issue of another moribund group, who through their wisdom never learnt the painful end of their former comrades’ political careers after great betrayal of peoples’ struggle.

All I know is that they wear orange clothes, I am not going to remind them that Orange is associated with witchcraft in certain countries. I will only mention that usually if you practise witchcraft you need a rooster, extract blood and say whatever you want to appease the spirits.

Now i understand they have a rooster in their stable, and they bought orange linens ready to perform the rituals, unfortunately my fellow Zimbabweans, the rooster won’t be slaughtered by the renewals, they are actually sleeping with the rooster and lay eggs.

For sometime since the GNU political discussions, the rooster successfully turned some of the ‘leaders’ into hens, the hens decided to hoard money earmarked for elections, yes it is public secret that MDC had less than 10 000 dollars, not because the money wasn’t there, but the hens pleased the rooster, shared our resources and now feasting at our expense.

The rooster promised them ministerial posts but we all know how experienced our dear leader is, he easily dumps puppets, am sure Cde Welshman Ncube, Cde Sekesai Makwavarara would testify and soon Renewals Cdes will discover their fate.

As i said before my aim is not to mention corrupt dealings between the revolutionary party and the renewal team, in this moment I am overjoyed with the prospect of handing the struggle back to the original owners, come 29 October 2014.

With a seasoned and principled leader in Morgan Tsvangirai, supported by motherly and humble figure in Amai Thoko Khupe, the ever smiling academic and seasoned lawyer Obert Gutu, the flamboyant and fearless Job Wiwa Sikhala, the energetic Lovemore Moyo, not to forget the supersonic and maverick SG in waiting Nelson Chamisa, the loyal servant Tapiwa Mashakada and of course Leader Douglas Mwonzora, I also wish the humble and poor lecturer Munyaradzi Gwisai is roped back.

I do believe the nucleus of the party remained intact, they understand the people because they came from the people, they refused to be bribed, they refused to abandon the people, they refused to live in luxury while the country is burning. They refused to sleep and dine with devil,

Fellow Zimbabweans, we have reached that period where people need to take charge of the struggle once again, we have suffered enough, we have been downtrodden for too long, lets reclaim what belongs to us, Zimbabwe is too beautiful to be wasted by few corrupt individuals.

I don’t want to remind you about free PHDs from UZ, lets not take that route, we must strive to work hard just like Mbuya Samere down there in Dotito, like Baba Rungano up there in Honde Valley, or even concentrate with dairy farming. PHDs don’t make our lives any better let us not lose hope.
