A 57 year old man was jailed for 20 years after he admitted to raping and impregnating his 12 year old niece on several occasions with one of the incidents being after intoxicating her with an unknown substance.
David Chikiwa was slapped with the lengthy jail term after he pleaded guilty to the rape charges when he appeared before Harare regional magistrate Fadzai Mtombeni.
State counsel, Danny Muchimbiri, said on an unknown date but sometime in 2011 Makuvaza would, sneak into the young girl’s room where he would rape her.
The court heard that on another date but towards the end of May this year, Makuvaza’s wife left for South Africa leaving the girl with her uncle at home.
It was said that the 57 year old took advantage of his wife’s absence and raped the girl after intoxicating her with an unknown substance.
On the day in question, Makuvaza sent his niece to buy some yoghurt.
It was said that the girl asked him what he had put in her yoghurt and he told the girl that the substance would make her happier.
Magistrate Mtombeni heard that at around 8pm the girl was shocked to see her uncle standing in her room wearing a pair of shorts.
Makuvaza went on to remove the girl’s clothes and raped her.
The matter came to light after the girl missed her menstrual period and started vomiting each time she ate, which forced her aunt to question her over her behaviour.
The 12 year old revealed all the sexual abuses she suffered at the hands of her uncle.
The matter was taken to police leading to Makuvaza’s arrest and subsequent caging.
