Thenjiwe Sibanda, 25, of Buvume area denied stabbing Barbra Ncube, 22, with a knife when she appeared before Gwanda magistrate Olivia Mashava Mashaire yesterday facing assault charges.

“Your worship, it is not true that I stabbed the complainant with a knife but I admit that I hit her with a three-legged pot. The complainant had indicated that she wanted me to return her cellphone earphones but I asked as to how I should give them back when she had not replaced mine that were broken by her sibling.

“The complainant attempted twice to hit me with that pot but on the third time I grabbed it from her and used it to hit her,” said Sibanda.

She told the court that Ncube and her grandmother had fabricated the issue as they wanted to get her arrested.

“During the fight, the complainant’s grandmother held me from behind and bit me on my back,” said Sibanda who was remanded out of custody to Thursday.

A medical report produced in court showed that a blunt object was used to injure Ncube.

However, Ncube maintained that Sibanda stabbed her with a knife which she said she always carried around.

“The problem started when I demanded my earphones back. Sibanda told me that I will only see my earphones in heaven and a misunderstanding arose which resulted in her stabbing me with a knife on my nasal bridge. She retrieved the knife from her bra and I was lucky that she didn’t poke my eye,” said Ncube.

Prosecuting, Getrude Zvidzai narrated how Ncube was assaulted by Sibanda.

“On July 26 this year at around 8AM, a misunderstanding arose between the accused and the complainant over cellphone earphones. The accused took an okapi knife from her bra and she stabbed the complainant once on the nose bridge just beside the left eye and as a result the complainant sustained a swollen eye and a cut,” the prosecutor said.
