BULAWAYO – Secessionist outfit Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has launched a tirade against breakaway MDC renewal team, advising the people in Matabeleland not to take the team seriously.

The fringe secessionist party claims Tendai Biti’s renewal team is a source of confusion in the region.

In pamphlets seen by the Daily News circulating here, MRP says the Biti-led party is attempting to gain public sympathy.

“We would like to advice our people not to take the so called renewal team seriously because it is here to confuse us as the people of Matabeleland,” MRP president Mqondisi Moyo said.

Moyo said it would be a fatal mistake to view the so-called renewal team led by Biti as a better party.

“They are here to divert our attention; they are not in any case better than Tsvangirai, they are even worse,” he said.  “If they were sincere they would have left MDC-T in 2005 when the MDC split.  Why now?”

Moyo said the former Finance minister should be best advised that Matabeleland was no playground for any emerging political party hunting for numbers.

Biti together with his renewal team mates were recently in Bulawayo conducting what they termed a meet the structure meeting.

This is their first foray into the city ever since they peeled away from MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

The rebels are also working on conducting a similar outreach programme in Midlands, Matabeleland North and South provinces that MRP considers as its territory under the Mthwakazi tag.

The fliers read: “Honourable Biti leave us alone. We don’t want you to come here to cry more than the bereaved. Biti and company are wolfs in sheep skin who are just here to impress their donors at the expense of people. We say enough is enough this is not your play ground.”

During their recent meeting in the city, the rebels reportedly told their supporters that if voted into power, they would roll out a compensation programme for Gukurahundi victims.

“Biti and Mangoma were all in government during the GNU and the two of them did nothing with regard to Gukurahundi other than former minister (Moses) Mzila-Ndlovu who fought a lonely battle. Maybe Biti and Mangoma can tell us why now?” Daily News
