As Big Brother auditions gather momentum aspiring housemates that include musicians, socialites and fashionistas have gone all out to ensure they grab as much attention as possible.
Word doing the rounds is that some would-be housemates have already launched campaigns on social media in a bid to be shortlisted for those who will represent Zimbabwe at the Africa’s biggest reality show.
Observers have suggested that what has become to be known as “Rommara” (Roki and Ammara Brown relationship) or “Candytin” (Candice Mwakalyelye and Tinopona Katsande’s supposed sexting posts) were desperate attempts to have a go at the Big Brother Africa show.
The latest is BaShupi who has since created a Facebook page for his campaign to be among the contestants. But the question is how is BaShupi going to fair in the show in view of his one-month old marriage to his longtime girlfriend-turned-manager Wadzanayi Gumbo?
BaShupi is rumoured to have tried his luck for the past twice seasons with little success. Other artistes the likes of Cynthia Mare, Sani Makhalima and Lady Squanda are reportedly setting their eyes on the reality show. When contacted for comments some of artistes have distanced themselves from the contest.
MultiChoice Zimbabwe publicist Liz Dziva said the Big Brother Africa auditions which are scheduled for this weekend at Meikles Hotel will have adjudicators from Endemol. Dziva said her office was inundated with calls from people of all walks of life in connection with the auditions.
“The selection panel for BBA consists of team members of Endemol, who are the producers of the show and selected staff from the Zimbabwe office. This ensures that the selection criterion is transparent. Furthermore, the shortlisted candidates are then sent to South Africa for further assessment before final selection,” she said.
The publicist said that the decision to select candidates is a team effort between M-Net’s Africa Magic and the show producers Endemol.
“The show’s selection team looks for housemates who are vocal, fluent in English, fun-loving, creative, original and articulate. Housemates are also expected be tolerant of views and lifestyle choices others than their own and must have the social flexibility to live in close proximity with others,” she said.
She said to enter for auditions one has to be the age of 21 years old with a valid passport.
“I have heard that some people have begun campaigning on social media of which is good to have a fan-base but the adjudicators don’t even know much of that and they don’t judge who has more fan-base or what. They judge you on the day and check on what they want,” she said.
The show which has been dubbed, “Africa’s biggest reality show” is in the ninth season. Last year, the show saw Pokello Nare and Hakeem Mandaza representing Zimbabwe with Namibian beauty Dillish Matthews walking away richer with US$300 000. The Herald
