Eliam Phiri dragged Bekezela Phiri to court demanding that the $50 maintenance he was paying  for the upkeep of his son who is over 20 years old be cancelled.

It was not immediately clear whether or not Phiri was still married to Bekezela, his son’s mother.

Phiri pleaded with Marylyn Mutshina to cancel the maintenance order saying his son has been working for two years now.

Bekezela was not in court, and when Mutshina asked Phiri where she was, he said he did not know.

Phiri said his son was a temporary teacher at Tshelanyemba Secondary School in Kezi.

He said he had been paying maintenance since 2006 when it was pegged at Zim$28,000.

Following the adoption of multi-currencies in 2009, Bekezela later approached the courts for a review and Phiri was ordered to pay $50.

Mutshina agreed to cancel the maintenance order. Chronicle
