Three people died on the spot, while 19 others were injured when a Harare-bound City Link bus collided head-on with a Nissan UD truck along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.

The accident occurred around 2.30pm and killed the bus driver, co-driver and the truck driver. Although we received several pictures of the accident most of them are too gruesome to use here.
Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said in a statement that the bus tried to drive through smoke that had engulfed the road. “Drivers should not drive through such dangerous conditions,” she said.
“If not sure, they should park their vehicles until the smoke subsides. Police are appealing to all drivers to consider the safety of their passengers and vehicles whenever they come across clouds of smoke on the road.”

One passenger who was not seriously injured said: “I panicked after the accident when I realised that my one-year two-months-old baby was missing and I thought he had died. I found him outside the bus and I just thanked God.”
City Link manager Mr Gerald Matapure conveyed his condolences to bereaved families.
“It is sad that life was lost due to the accident,” he said. “As a company, we are going to assist in the burial of all the deceased.” Names of the deceased are being withheld until their next of kin are informed.
