Smirking Tafadzwa Rungo, originally from Zimbabwe but now based in Ashford, carried out his brutal assault while talking about Satan and the Devil.

During her evidence, his victim told a jury at Canterbury Crown Court how his eyes turned blood-red during the ordeal.

Now Rungo, of High Street, has been told he will have to serve a 14-year jail term – and face an extra four more years on licence when released.

Controlling Rungo, 34, screamed vile insults at his victim before punching her in her face, head and back – as her young child watched in horror.

The victim later told police she thought Zimbabwean-born Rungo was “possessed” as he grabbed her around the neck and began strangling his victim.

The attacker then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and threatened to kill her and the child, the court heard.

Judge Heather Norton said: “She was, quite naturally, terrified and she tried to escape. You grabbed her and again and fell to the ground where you continued to assault and to strangle her.

“She said that at that point she passed out and when she came around she heard her child asking you to stop.”

Judge Heather Norton passed sentence

Despite the pleas, Rungo ordered his victim to perform a sex act before he raped her again despite her tearful pleas to stop.

Then the rapist wrapped his legs around his victim so she could not move – and was only able to escape the following day and raise the alarm.

The judge told Rungo, who was convicted on three rapes and an assault causing actual bodily harm: “I was concerned by some of the things your victim said during the course of her evidence.

“She said she thought you looked possessed and were talking about the Devil and Satan and I asked for a psychiatric report on you which has concluded you do not suffer from any mental illness.”

But the judge said despite that she has concluded that Rungo was dangerous to women and needed an extended sentence. As she said it, the defendant smirked. Kent Online
