Muzenda granted bail

By Daniel Nemukuyu

Seke traditional healer David Muzenda, accused of shooting his wife dead, was on Wednesday granted $600 bail by the High Court. Muzenda is alleged to have killed Eunice Kombo after being incensed by her nude pictures which he discovered in her phone.

Kombo, according to the court papers, also sent the pictures to her alleged boyfriend. Justice Esther Muremba ordered Muzenda’s release after the National Prosecuting Authority representative by Mr Beaven Murevanhema consented to the application for bail.

Muzenda was ordered to surrender his passport to the clerk of court and to stay at his given address pending finalisation of the criminal case. Mrs Tendai Magaya-Mandizvidza and Ms Gloria Sithole of Magaya-Mandizvidza Legal Practitioners represented Muzenda.

According to the State, Muzenda committed the offence last week after discovering that Kombo was sending her nude pictures to the suspected lover. Muzenda allegedly produced his pistol and shot Kombo once on the left side ear lobe, killing her on the spot. The corpse was discovered in a Mercedes Benz in Seke.

In his warned and cautioned statement, Muzenda admitted to having an altercation with his wife, but denied the allegations that he shot her. He said after discovering that she was cheating, he told her that they should end their relationship. Muzenda argued that prior to her death, Kombo attempted to throw herself in a well, but was restrained by his father.

It is Muzenda’s argument that she later shot herself with his gun.

Muzenda is expected back in court Thursday for routine remand.
