A Warren Park woman and her baby were crushed to death by a goods train at Cold Comfort Flyover on Monday afternoon. The deceased Zvikomborero Chitombo, 17, together with her 3 months old baby was accompanied by her 14 year old cousin visiting a prophet for prayers around lunch time.

The goods train was coming from Rugare on its way to Bindura and according to her mother Sinakanani Mpofu, 43, the deceased fell down twice on the railway line as she tried to escape before she was run over.
“Mwana wake anga achinorapiswa nhova kune vanoshandira so she failed to escape because she had a baby on her back and was caught under the flyover,” said Sinakanani.
“She was accompanied by her cousin who managed to run away and she fell down twice before the train ran over her.
“The death is so painful to me after she was left pregnant to her husband in December who was murdered and it disturbs me much,” said Sinakanani.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tadius Chibanda confirmed the incident and warned people not to use railway lines as walk ways.
“Police attended the scene where a woman together with her baby who was on her back were run over by a goods train under a stream bridge,” said Inspector Chibanda.
“She was accompanied by her cousin who managed to escape and the bodies were taken to Harare Central Hospital mortuary.
“We are urging members of the public to avoid walking along the rail lines and respect railway crossing places since train pass any time,” he added.
Mourners are gathered at gathered at house 5081-114 street in Warren Park D and the body is expected to be buried at her rural village in Zvimba. H Metro
