GWANDA – The MDC-T Matabeleland South provincial Youth Assembly has ousted its main wing provincial chairperson Watchy Sibanda accusing him of being a “rebel” working with party’s national deputy treasurer, Elton Mangoma to topple leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Mangoma recently wrote to Tsvangirai advising him to step down.

In a statement on Sunday MDC-T Matabeleland South Youth Assembly executive led by its youth provincial chairman Morgan Ncube said at their meeting on Friday in Gwanda they resolved to pass a vote of no confidence on Sibanda.

“As Matabeleland South Provincial Youth Assembly we have lost confidence in the leadership of Watchy Sibanda, we have passed a vote of no confidence and therefore call him to vacate the chairmanship position for failing to lead,” said the MDC-T Matabeleland South Youth Assembly in a statement signed by Ncube.

The youths also demanded that Sibanda should return the party’s Isuzu vehicle with immediate effect warning that those working with him in the province will be disciplined.

“He is undermining the office of an elected official of congress and has also kept the party’s Isuzu truck at his home from last year February up to date; hence we give him seven days to surrender the vehicle to the provincial offices.

“He also attended a clandestine meeting in Nyanga of which details were not disclosed to the province,” the statement added.

The MDC-T Matabeleland South Youth Assembly also mentioned that they no longer recognise Mangoma as national deputy treasurer and banned him from their province.

“By declaring himself a party president, Mangoma must be investigated since the youth have a strong suspicion that he has channelled party funds to himself preparing his renewal debacle, hence sabotaging the elections.

“We remain confident and steadfast in the leadership of Dr Tsvangirai. He will be our presidential candidate for 2018 general elections.”

Mangoma was assaulted at the party headquarters Harvest House last week while other senior party officials were also roughed up in Harare for saying Tsvangirai should hand over the baton.
