Magunje family finds human skull in yard

A Magunje family got the shock of their lives when they discovered a human skull in the courtyard. The incident has left tongues wagging among Chief Dendera’s subjects amid suspicion that the skull was excavated by a flooded Ruhove River.

There are graves near the river banks.

Mrs Sheila Gono said her family was shocked by the incident.

“I sent my two girls to look for pumpkin leaves, but as soon as they left I heard them screaming. When I went out to investigate, I saw Nyasha and Perseverance running back and screaming.

“They told me that there was a human skull close to where they were about to pick the pumpkin leaves and took me to the scene. I am convinced the skull was washed to this point after Ruhove River flooded on Sunday,” she said.

Only missing from the skull’s set of teeth are two incisors. The area’s village head, Mr Suchmore Zinyama, also believes the skull was “exhumed” from one of the graves close to the flooded river.

“So far we have notified the police and Chief Dendera is also aware of this issue. We are now waiting for men and women who are responsible for the ritual connected with the reburial of human remains in this area to tell us the way forward. They must be arriving anytime from now,” he said.
