Four killed in Zupco bus accident

Four cross border traders died after a Zupco bus that they were traveling in was swept away while trying to cross Musavezi River in Shurugwi early this morning.

Scores of other passengers were injured and taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital. The bus was carrying 29 people plus the crew.

Two missing bodies are feared to have been swept away by the river. The Mandamabwe-Gweru highway has been cut off due the destruction of the bridge. All Gweru bound traffic is now going through Zvishavane.

Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi told ZBC the bus plunged into Musabezi River near Mukandapi Business Centre. He said the driver of the bus travelling from Beitbridge tried to cross a bridge that was submerged under water.
