According to a report by the Birmingham Mail newspaper the two “were arrested at Wolverhampton police station on Wednesday (15 January) while being interviewed about the death of the baby girl on January 6, 2014.”

Although their identities have not been revealed and details of the case are still sketchy, Nehanda Radio understands the couple are members of the apostolic sect and had refused to take their sick child to hospital for treatment preferring instead to follow the teachings of their religion and rely on prayer.

The baby who has also not been identified died at the New Cross Hospital shortly after being taken by ambulance from an address in the Park Village area of the city. A forensic post mortem has taken place however further tests are being carried out to determine the exact cause of death, reports the paper.

Both Zimbabwean parents of the child, have been bailed whilst further investigations continue.
