HARARE – Sultry songstress Cynthia Mare who relocated to Zimbabwe in May this year will be launching her new album on Tuesday at the Maestro Restaurant in Harare.

Ever since the death of her mother in July 2011, Cynthia has reinvented her music, ditching the ‘Not Another Diet’ hip-hop genre to something more Afro-pop and Zimbabwean. Her new album is called “Songs My Mother Loved”.

Nehanda Radio understands Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Jonathan Moyo and his Deputy Supa Mandiwanzira will be in attendance as part of the ministry’s effort to support local artists.

Cynthia has been on the grind as she seeks to carve a niche for herself in the local music industry. She has already been featured on the main ZTV 8pm news, performed a song while Oliver Mtukudzi was playing guitar for her at the Harare International Conference Centre during a Mtukudzi tribute show in September.

It was during that tribute show that she also met South African musicians Hugh Masekela and Steve Dyer who both said they would love to collaborate with her.

Cynthia who is currently working with talented producer Clive ‘Mono’ Mukundu and is also a mentor on the Star Brite talent search competition.

In August 2011, Cynthia performed as a curtain raiser for Jamaican dancehall sensation Sean Paul in Bristol at the O2 Academy in the UK. In October the same year she scooped a BEFFTA (Black, Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television and Arts) Award for ‘Best UK Female Afro/Caribbean Act’.
