In this video footage former South African President Nelson Mandela makes fun of President Robert Mugabe’s large and ‘noisy’ motorcade. The clip is taken from the Carte Blanche programme, a South African current affairs investigative series.

Madiba tells those seated with him at a dinner table how he responded to a question from his granddaughter on why he did not have a similar motorcade. Explaining the question Mandela said:

“She says grandpa, why don’t you have these cars next to you, whistling, like Mugabe. He says even his wife when she travels alone, she has these motorbikes alongside her, making all the noise, and people and cars have to draw to the side.”

Watch the clip to hear Mandela’s hilarious response.

The tragedy of our time is that we often confuse the dragons. We blame yesterday’s fighters for not slaying today’s monsters. We keep shouting at the past while the present quietly tightens its grip.
