The European Union has agreed to lift sanctions on a Zimbabwean diamond mining firm despite concerns over alleged fraud in a July election that kept President Robert Mugabe in power, an EU diplomat said on Tuesday.

EU governments have “begun the process of delisting” the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation, the diplomat said after senior EU diplomats discussed the issue at a Brussels meeting. Reuters

HARARE - The European Union (EU) has lifted its asset freeze on the state-owned Zimbabwe Defence Industries (ZDI), the last remaining entity on its targeted sanctions list.

Chiwenga strikes deal for sanctioned Zimbabwe to purchase weapons from Iran

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is also a former Army General, has struck a deal in the Middle East, which will see Zimbabwe purchasing weapons from Iran in order to bypass sanctions imposed by western countries. The Iranian newspaper, Iran Observer, confirmed the development on Tuesday afternoon.
