MUTARE — A Harare man, who made a false police report that he was robbed of US$1 400 before being raped by three women, landed himself in hot soup after he was slapped with a jail sentence by a Mutare magistrate.

Norman Chireka (26) of Glen View in Harare appeared before magistrate, Noah Gwatidzo facing charges of deliberately supplying false information to a public authority. He was convicted on his own plea of guilt and jailed for 40 days with an option to pay a US$100 fine.
Public prosecutor, Shepherd Chawarika told the court that on August 7 this year, Chireka, masquerading as a South African national, deliberately made a false report at Mutare Central Police station that he had been robbed of a Samsung Galaxy S4, US$900 and a bag containing various clothes while on a visit to Zimbabwe.
The court was further told that Chireka lied that he was forced to have unprotected sexual intercourse with three women while a man, who he said was part of the gang, was on guard. A team of detectives who were investigating the case were not satisfied with his explanations. They further interrogated Chireka who later admitted that he had made a false report.
He also revealed that he was not South African but Zimbabwean and that he had been deported from the neighbouring country. Zimbabwe Standard
