HARARE – One of Alick Macheso’s biggest fans, philanthropist and businessman only identified as Bozonde has pledged to assist one of the singer’s latest recruits, identified only as Peter.

Furious Alick Macheso speaks to dancer Peter Kagomera. Macheso has in the past admitted that each time his best dancer gets paid, he loses his head.
Furious Alick Macheso speaks to (now former) dancer Peter Kagomera who was later fired from the band for his wayward behaviour.

Peter, who is believed to have come off the streets, was discovered during one of Macheso’s weekend gigs at Megga 1 Bar where he impressed the crowd with his fancy footwork.

Previously Macheso had another dancer from the streets called Peter Kagomera who was fired from the band for his wayward behaviour.

However, the new Peter – aged 16 – got his life-changing opportunity after Bhozonde through the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society pledged to look after the talented dancer by paying his upkeep.

He also pledged to clothe the youngster and provide decent accommodation. Peter becomes the first recruit in Macheso’s camp following the departure of three experienced band members.

What remains to be seen is whether Peter will fill in the void left by Francis “Slomo” Dhaka. Macheso, who is the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society Humanitarian Ambassador, also vowed to assist the young dancer.

“Mamuwona here uyu? Anogona here uyu, manje munoda kuti tiite sei naye?” he asked. The crowd responded with loud cheers saying: “Mutore mhani Macheso, nhasi chaiye.”

“I picked him among his friends at the Harare Gardens, a place where they call their home. I would frequent the place to give them some food. I was so touched by the way they lived and decided to assist as a humanitarian ambassador,” Macheso said.

Later, Bhozonde took to the stage and pledged his assistance to Peter.

“My name is Bozida Boss Bozonde and I have got a question. How do we feel when we leave these children to suffer while we drive expensive vehicles and living large at our homes? “

Macheso and I will have a meeting on how we can assist this youngster,” he said much to the delight of the crowd. The Herald
