BAK Logistics Company has reportedly lost more than US$49 000 to its two security officers.

The duo of Stanley Vhiriri (42) and Jephias Mandishona (38), were not asked to plead to theft charges when they appeared before Mbare Magistrate Reuben Mukavhi.
They will be out of custody awaiting trial on June 25. The pair took advantage of their duties as security officers who were responsible for manning the premises at BAK Logistics and stole the property.
In November last year, BAK Logistics received a truck load of 60 000 hard boards belonging to one of the company’s clients for safekeeping. It is alleged that the consignment was kept at the warehouse pending collection.
Further allegations are that during the period extending from January this year to April the duo, with another accomplice who is still at large hatched a plan to steal the boards. They reportedly hired a truck which came at the premises several times and loaded the hard boards.
It is alleged that they loaded their loot during the early hours of the morning and they did not book the truck at the gate since they were the ones manning the gates. The pair then sold the loot to different unsuspecting buyers around Harare.
The offence came to light when the owner came to collect his boards only to discover that the property was no longer at the premises.
The matter was reported to the police and investigations that were made thereafter led to Mbare New Complex where individuals were found selling the boards. Further investigations led the detectives to Glen Norah area where some had bought the stolen goods.
The duo was subsequently arrested and boards worth US$4720 were recovered.
Fanuel Madanire appeared for the state.
