Mugeyi re-united with head coach Craig Rosslee with whom he worked at Ajax Cape Town.

“We’re pleased to announce that Wilfred Mugeyi has been appointed as the assistant coach at AmaZulu on a two-year contract. He will start immediately with his new duties under the head coach, Craig Rosslee,” AmaZulu general manager Peter O’Connor said.

O’Connor said that Mugeyi was set to attend last night’s match against Bloemfontein Celtic at Moses Mabhida Stadium but will only start to be based in the technical area afterwards as per normal protocol.

The 43-year-old ex-Zimbabwe international will be remembered for his goal scoring prowess for clubs such as Umtata Bush Bucks, Ajax and Free State Stars, which earned him the nickname ‘Silver Fox’.

Prior to Mugeyi joining Chippa United he was second in charge at the Ikamva based Ajax Cape Town from 2007 to 2012, which saw him working with Rosslee for a period.

Meanwhile Black Leopards’ Sunday Chidzambwa has praised his players’ character after their come-from-behind 2-1 win against Ajax Cape Town in Polokwane on Tuesday night.

The Urban Warriors had led through Abia Nale’s 19-minute goal, but Lidoda Duvha equalised through Michael Nkambule’s first touch, before captain Rodney Ramagalela netted a dramatic winner in stoppage-time.

The three points saw Leopards draw level on 23 points with the Cape side, and Chidzambwa was happy with the fighting spirit on display.

“In the first half we were not fighting, but in the second half we put up a spirited performance and I’m very pleased with the boys,” the former Warriors coach said after the game. At halftime I told the players to attack them (Ajax), to go at them, but not to forget to defend. They did that and we got the three points.”

Man of the Match was Raymond Monama, and he said they knew it was a must-win game.

“We knew we had to go all out today because if we were going to lose against Ajax it was going to be a mountain to climb to get six points from the teams we have to play away from home, so we had to work hard and fight all the way,” he said.

“I worked hard, but the whole team had to work hard and credit must go to them because they kept me going and encouraged me all game.”

Leopards will be banking on more points in their next two matches, against University of Pretoria and AmaZulu. — Kick-off.com
