It was pomp and fanfare as Macheso’s convoy left ZRCS headquarters in Emerald Hill at around 10:30 am on his way to the airport where he left aboard an afternoon South African Airways flight.

Also part of the convoy was ZRCS national president Edison Mlambo.

In a show of solidarity, Sulu bade Macheso farewell and wished him well as he embarks on his maiden United Kingdom show as a humanitarian ambassador. This put to rest speculation that there was bad blood between the two artists.

“I wish Mdara a very safe journey and very successful shows in the UK. We hope he travels safely,” said Sulu. Macheso thanked Sulu for his gesture and bade farewell to his fans. He chanted his famous ‘kochekera’ chant and promised his fans massive welcome home shows when he returns to the country.

Local promoter and Macheso fan Boss Nyekete was part of the delegation that escorted Macheso to the airport. He shared some wise words with Macheso and said macheso’s music had an international appeal.
