Addressing guests at their belated end of the year party, guest of honour and Deputy Commissioner-General Crime, Josphine Shambare spoke glowingly about the Harare chapter.

“The arrest of police officers for corruption in the province recently is a clear indication that we have really waged a war against this scourge,” she said:

“The command should be commended for its stance against corruption and I would like to enjoin all police officers to remain disciplined and shun corruption.

“Certainly, if you engage in act of corruption, you will erode public confidence in you, as well as tarnishing the image of the organisation.

“Let me warn all misguided elements amongst you that if you indulge in corrupt activities, that’s the end of your police career. Remember: lies have got short legs which can’t run far.

“It is also gratifying to note that Harare province successfully provided adequate security to high level events and functions in 2012.

“I therefore urge you to maintain the momentum as the country is set to hold a referendum and harmonised elections this year.

She said; “It is my fervent conviction that you are adequately prepaid to police these national events, and ensure that peace and tranquillity prevails before, during and after these plebiscites.

“I therefore appeal to all political and civic leaders to be exemplary and preach the gospel of peace, tolerance and comradeship to their supporters for violence breeds hate and dissent.

“I am pleased to note that, Harare Province managed to partner with the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Infrastructural Development, as well as the City of Harare, in a bid to find a lasting solution to traffic congestion in the city.

“Certainly, your effort to tame the City which had turned into a traffic jungle is laudable.”

Speaking at the same event, Senior Assistant Commissioner Munoriarwa thanked the business community for supporting police in their achievements in the province.

“ I pay tribute to the business community which contributed immensely in providing various forms of assistance in order to facilitate the smooth flow of our operations,” said Assistant Commissioner Munoriarwa.

“It is our expectation that the experience gained from the previous year will give us the necessary motivation to navigate in the deep waters of the year 2013 in order to achieve our goals.

“The province remains committed and dedicated to carry out its mandate of protecting life and property, preventing, detecting and investigating offences including providing safety and security to the people and community of Harare.”
