The High Court on Thursday officially dissolved the 20 year old marriage between Environment and Natural Resources minister Francis Nhema and his wife Louise Sehlule Nhema (nee Nkomo).

Louise is the second daughter to the late Vice-President Joshua Nkomo who died in July 1999. She sought the divorce claiming the marriage had irretrievably broken down and the Zanu PF minister did not contest the matter.

Justice Hlekani Mwayera therefore granted the divorce order by consent. The couple averted an acrimonious split by reaching agreement on the division of immovable assets, custody of a minor child and maintenance.

Details of the sharing of property were not made public given that the divorce was not contested by either party following their out-of-court settlement on the matter. The child, whose age or sex was not given, will live with its mother.

Nhema is the latest Zanu PF official to divorce after his party chairman Simon Khaya Moyo divorced his wife of 32 years last September. Moyo divorced his wife of more than 30 years because she was sleeping with another man.

Local government minister Ignatius Chombo was embroiled in a messy divorce with his wife of 26 years, Marian Mhloyi. The case exposed his massive property portfolio and affair with former ZBC news anchor, Nanette Silukhuni.
