Anglican parishioners loyal to the main church thronged the cathedral in Harare on Sunday for a service to “cleanse and re-dedicate” the building after a long over-due Supreme Court ruling kicked out renegade bishop Nolbert Kunonga.

Kunonga backed by the entire might of the Mugabe regime locked out parishioners loyal to the main church for over five years. Zanu PF youths, police and state security agents even provided him with round the clock protection and enforced his control of church buildings, cars and bank accounts.

On Sunday Bishop Chad Gandiya struck the main doors three times with pastoral staff to have them opened. He blessed what he called the “defiled” interior with signs of the cross ahead of the first Eucharist service since they were often violently banished from churches and missions seized nationwide.
