Prophet Makandiwa arrives for Judgment Night held this year in May. His brother Pastor Tawanda Makandiwa meanwhile wants to divorce his wife over her suicidal tendencies.

Pastor Makandiwa is brother to the church’s founder Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa. He married Mrs Lovejoy Makandiwa (nee Choto) on November 10 2007, but the marriage is now on the rocks due to various misunderstandings. The marriage was blessed with two children aged four and two.

Pastor Makandiwa stated in the plaintiff’s declaration that he now lacked love and affection for his wife and that the marriage should be terminated.

“During the subsistence of the marriage, the defendant (Mrs Makandiwa) has exhibited some suicidal tendencies thereby causing great embarrassment to the plaintiff,” read part of the declaration.

“Plaintiff regards this as incompatible with the continuation of a normal marriage relationship. The marriage relationship between the parties has irretrievably broken down to such an extent that there are no prospects of a reconciliation of a normal marriage.”

Over the years, Pastor Makandiwa said, family members have unsuccessfully tried to counsel the couple. The pastor is claiming custody of the children and is prepared to pay his estranged wife US$200 monthly maintenance until death or until she remarries.

He also offered to pay rentals for the wife to the tune of US$500 per month. Pastor Makandiwa is offering his wife ownership of all the movable properties they acquired during the subsistence of the marriage.

It has now been set down for November 8 this year as an unopposed matter. Pastor Makandiwa has published a notice of the set down in the press as proof that he was not ambushing his wife with an application. Part of the notice published in The Herald edition of October 19 read:

“Take notice that the above matter (HC6297/12) has been set down for hearing on Thursday the 8th of November 2012 at 10am or soon thereafter, as the matter may be heard…”
