The incident happened soon after Senate President, Edna Madzongwe, and her procession had just walked in to commence business of the day. The Senator is said to be diabetic. Senators close to her said the legislator had earlier on complained that she was not feeling well as her sugar level had suddenly become high.

“At first she remained seated hoping that it would subside. She eventually tried to stand up to go and seek attention and she fell down before she could walk as she had become weak,” said one Senator close to her. Madzongwe subsequently suspended business and left her chair to attend to the Senator.

She could be heard calling for water from an office orderly. Several Senators walked to see the Senator who was lying on the floor. Health personnel were subsequently summoned and came in with a wheelchair.

Sen Chabuka who eventually became conscious but could not stand up was subsequently taken to a clinic at Parliament where she was attended to. Sen Chabuka is deputy chairperson for Women Parliamentary Caucus. The Herald
