HARARE – President Robert Mugabe yesterday received an iPad 2 from the minister of Information, Communication and Technology Nelson Chamisa during the official launch of the presidential e-learning programme at a colourful ceremony held at Chogugudza Primary School in Domboshava.

The e-learning programme aims among other things; introduce information technology tools like computers and Internet as tools of learning for the purposes of strengthening education systems in the country.
The programme whose idea was mooted out in the 1999 Nziramasanga Commission of Enquiry into the Training and Education system which recommended e-learning, focuses on establishing networked computer laboratories in schools across the country.
“The world today revolves around the use of ICTs, which has become the infrastructure backbone that anchors all competitive economies. As a nation, we cannot afford to ignore this global reality,” Mugabe said.

Chamisa left thousands of people gathered for the launch of the programme which is a milestone in the development of the education system in stitches when he did a citation of his donation to Mugabe.
“President, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai, he came back with two tablets containing the Ten Commandments but I am not going to be like Moses because I am not Moses. But I am going to present you with a tablet, and in this tablet you can store a lot of information,” Chamisa said referring to the iPad.
Chamisa continued to provide comic relief throughout the function attended by high ranking government ministers, members of Parliament and traditional leadership. He even managed to score points when he said; “I am proud to put a signature on the education system because it is effective. It has managed to produce a young minister like myself.”
The iPad is a line of tablet computers designed and marketed by Apple Inc., primarily as a platform for audio-visual media including books, periodicals, movies, music, games, apps and web content. Daily News
