Tsvangirai was speaking at Glen View 3 High School on Saturday while officially launching the CDF projects that were undertaken in Glen View North constituency, Harare. The MP for the area is Fani Munengami.

“Corruption is corruption and those who stole CDF money will be arrested even if they are ministers. As government, we have zero tolerance to corruption,” Tsvangirai said while commending Munengami for carrying out the projects in the constituency in a transparent manner.

“Munengami has come out clean and because of this as government we will ensure that the CDF money is increased in order to benefit the people. We want a leadership that is open to criticism and one that serves the people,” the PM said.

Several projects worth US$50 000 were undertaken by Munengami in his constituency. The projects include; electrifying Glen View 3 High, furnishing the computer lab at Glen View 2 Primary School, supply of 16 computers at Glen View 7 Primary School, purchase of school furniture at Glen View 5 Primary School and electrification of Glen View 7 extension.

The launch was attended by several senior government officials who included the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Nelson Chamisa, the Minister of Parliament and Constitutional Affairs, Eric Matinenga, MPs, councillors and senior government officials.

In the last thirty days three MDC-T legislators, Marvelous Khumalo, Albert Mhlanga and Cleopas Machacha, plus Zanu PF’s MP for Magunje, Franco Ndambakuwa, were all arrested on allegations they had diverted funds from parliament which were meant for development projects in their constituencies.

According to Constitutional Affairs Minister Eric Matinenga, 10 MPs — six from Zanu PF and four from MDC-T — failed to submit returns to prove how they had used the US$50,000 they had each received from the CDF in 2010. Concern has already been expressed that only one out of six ZANU PF legislators has been arrested.

Last week London based SW Radio Africa reported that Attorney General Johannes Tomana is blocking the arrest of two ZANU PF government ministers, one accused of abusing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and the other of corruptly acquiring council land, among other things.

Youth and Empowerment Minister Saviour Kasukuwere and Local Government Minister Ignatius Chombo should have been arrested when other MP’s were picked up for allegedly abusing the CDF funds. Tomana rushed to stop the Anti-Corruption Commission from carrying out more arrests because two key individuals in the ZANU PF regime were next in line. Nehanda Radio.com
