The MDC-T ‘Real Change’ rally road show moved into Bulawayo on Sunday where once again the party and its President Morgan Tsvangirai showed why they have been winning elections against Zanu PF and Robert Mugabe. Over 25 000 supporters are estimated to have packed into the White City Stadium.

The smaller MDC faction led by Welshman Ncube suffered a major blow after the children of its late leader Gibson Sibanda defected to join Tsvangirai’s larger formation. Thandi and Mbuso Sibanda defected to join the MDC-T and were paraded in front of the huge cheering crowds on Sunday.

Thandi and Mbuso, who were each given a minute to address party supporters, both said: “We are back home.” Another Ncube MDC councillor from Mangwe’s ward 13, Emily Mguni, and a former Zanu PF Bulawayo province member also defected to Tsvangirai’s party.

MDC-T organising secretary Nelson Chamisa said it was not his party’s intention to poach from other parties but they welcomed people who wanted to join it. “We have also received Fanuel Bayayi, a former senator who was a member of the MDC. “Our philosophy is that to add is to strengthen and to subtract is to weaken. Wherever there is a threat of subtraction, we shall eliminate,” he said.
