Zanu PF finally win something

Must Try

By Fortune Tazvida

It has been a bad year for Zanu PF. They lost the key election for the Speaker of Parliament to the MDC-T and left the SADC Troika summit in Zambia with their tails tucked between their legs after being rebuked by regional leaders over escalating political violence and intimidation.

Zimbabwe Mafia Soccer Team
This was a cheeky campaign putting the country’s elite military junta under the spotlight in SA: Back row: Patrick Chinamasa (Justice Ministry), Obert Mpofu (Mines Ministry), Emerson Mnangagwa (Defence Ministry), Paradzai Zimondi (Prisons), Perence Shiri (Airforce), Constantine Chiwenga (Army). Front row: Johannes Tomana (Attorney General), Happyton Bonyongwe (CIO), Gideon Gono (Reserve Bank), Augustine Chihuri (Police), Philip Sibanda (Army).

Over the weekend however, Zanu PF finally won something, on the football pitch at least. ZANU PF emerged the winners of a Peace Soccer Tournament at Gwabalanda’s Amakhosi Ground in Bulawayo on Saturday. Four political parties participated in the tournament, namely ZANU PF, MDC-T, MDC-N and ZAPU.

Mugabe’s party walked away with a shield and a soccer ball. ZAPU were named the most disciplined team. JOMIC (Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee) representatives from the three political parties in the Government of National Unity were also present.

Political parties and JOMIC hailed the tournament organized by the Bulawayo Agenda pressure group as a positive step towards building peace and encouraging tolerance in the political parties. The irony of course is that the party behind the political violence has won a football tournament trying to encourage peace.
