Two MDC activists remanded in custody

Two MDC youth activists from Zhombe, Midlands North province have been remanded in custody at the Kwekwe Magistrate’s Court after appearing in court facing framed charges of beating a Zanu PF supporter in February.

MDC flagLazarus Zviito and Tafadzwa Muchakagara are being charged with assaulting a Samuel Samambwa Junior, a relative of Chief Samambwa of Zhombe and a Zanu PF supporter on 14 February.

Samambwa Junior had confiscated and burnt MDC regalia belonging to MDC members. The charges are trumped up but the two MDC members were remanded in custody to May 6.

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of four MDC activists from Chikomba District in Mashonaland East Province, Anna Peresu, Timothy Mugari, Remita Motiwa and Taruvinga who were kidnapped by Zanu PF youth militia on Sunday at Mbare Musika, Harare remain unknown.

The four were travelling to Chikomba after attending the MDC Third National Congress in Bulawayo.  A report was made at Mbare police station but no action has been taken by the police.

Many MDC activists on Sunday were assaulted by the Zanu PF terror gang known as Chipangano, in Mbare and their regalia was confiscated.
