War vets demand to teach history in Mazowe

Must Try

Trending

So-called war veterans in Mazowe, Mashonaland Central, fiercely loyal to Mugabe’s regime, have demanded to take over schools in the area and teach history lessons on the liberation struggle.

The headmaster of Kakora Secondary School confirmed this demand and threats in a letter written to the local MDC-T MP Shepherd Mushonga. The MP later asked Education Minister David Coltart in Parliament if it was now government policy to allow war veterans to teach history lessons.

“The political parties should not meddle in education. We should not expose school children to politics as it is against the Education Act. Schools should not be used for politics. I want the MP’s to support me in trying to stop what is now happening,’’ Coltart responded.
