Supreme Court nullifies Speaker’s election

The Zanu PF machinery kicked into top gear on Thursday as the Supreme Court stuffed with Mugabe sympathizers nullified the election of Lovemore Moyo as Speaker of the House of Assembly.

Zanu PF’s Tsholotsho North MP Jonathan Moyo filed an appeal against an earlier ruling by the High Court after he challenged Moyo’s August 2008 election claiming the vote was not secret and violated House Rules.

In 2008 Welshman Ncube’s MDC struck a deal with Zanu PF and nominated Paul Themba Nyathi as their candidate. The cooperation backfired as furious MP’s from the smaller MDC faction instead voted for Lovemore Moyo from the MDC-T.

On the same day the Supreme Court threw out an appeal against the acquittal of MDC-T Treasurer General Roy Bennett who was facing treason and banditry charges. Bennett now in exile in South Africa no longer has a case to answer.

It is however expected that attempts to victimize him will continue and Mugabe and Zanu PF will block any attempt to have him sworn in as Deputy Agriculture Minister even though his party nominated him to the post.
