Mugabe ‘goblin’ MP arrested by traffic police

Police spokesman Andrew Phiri on Thursday claimed that one of their officers smashed the windscreen of a white Nissan Hardbody NP300 truck (registration ABK 8221) belonging to Nyanga North MDC-T MP Douglas Mwonzora.

Phiri said the reason for this reaction by police was that Mwonzora parked his car dangerously while picking up passengers along the Harare-Masvingo road. The MP was approached by cops ‘but attempted to run over the officers before one of them smashed the windscreen with a button stick, forcing him to stop.’

Phiri claimed Mwonzora was arrested for the incident and made to pay an admission of guilt fine of US$10. Many however will view the incident as part of ongoing harassment against Mwonzora who on the 21st March 2009 called Robert Mugabe a ‘goblin’ during a rally at Ruwangwe Growth Point in Nyanga.

Speaking in his native Shona language Mwonzora said, “Mugabe chikwambo uye achamhanya. Ndawona Mugabe achigeza tauro muchuwuno, sipo muhapwa uye ndebvu hupepe. Pamberi neMDC pasi nechihurumende chembavha.

In English his speech translated into, ‘Mugabe is a goblin and will run. I saw Mugabe bathing, towel around the waist, soap in the armpit and an overgrown beard. Forward with the MDC and down with a government of thieves.’
