Baby dumped at Matapi Flats toilet

A NEWLY born baby was found dead in a toilet at Matapi Flats on Saturday morning. Harare City Council employees who had come to fix the toilet that had blocked retrieved the body.

“The toilet had not been functioning well, so we consulted the city council to fix it for us and that was when the baby was found in the blocked toilet,” said Blessing Banana one of the onlookers.

However, female residents at the flats informed H-Metro that they suspect an outsider dumped the baby. “Remember these toilets are also used by people from Mupedzanhamo Flee Market and people from other flats so we cannot conclude that this was done by women from this flat,” said one of the residents.

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau said investigations were still underway. “The police will look into that issue and we are hoping to find the culprit,” said Sabau. The baby was taken to Matapi police station and later to Harare Hospital mortuary. H Metro
