Russell Goreraza the son of first lady Grace Mugabe from a previous marriage, reportedly tied the knot on Saturday in Harare. Although details remained sketchy, publisher Trevor Ncube on his twitter page said ‘neighbourhood turned into fortress. Potholes repaired #Harare.’

Speculation was rife the couple would splash the cash in a ‘Hollywood’ style wedding that took place amid tight security at the posh RainTree, in the outlying upmarket suburb of Umwinsidale. Over 1000 guests mainly from the Zanu PF hierarchy and several cabinet ministers attended.

The wedding coordinator identified as Gill Harrison spoke to Radio VOP and confirmed she was preparing a special wedding for the First Family. “I have my plate full. I am organizing a wedding for the first lady. I will have to make sure the 1000 or so guests are well taken care of.”

Wing Commander  Stanley Goreraza, former husband to Grace Mugabe, is a former Air Force of Zimbabwe pilot who was made defence attaché at the Zimbabwean embassy in China. He had his wife snatched from under his nose by Robert Mugabe even before Mugabe’s first wife Sally Hayfron had died.

In 1995 Goreraza’s then wife (Grace) had had two children by Mugabe and this became public after several high profile denials of the affair. In 1995 or 1996, Grace and Stanley Goreraza divorced and Grace married Robert Mugabe in 1996.

By 2000, Goreraza was studying in China and he was due to return to Zimbabwe in late 2000. The following January, Goreraza was appointed as Zimbabwe’s defence attaché to China. It was also in 2001 that Goreraza was hospitalized in China and visited by Robert and Grace Mugabe.

In 2006, Goreraza was honoured for his long service in the Air Force of Zimbabwe, receiving a bar to his long and exemplary service medal. Some say Stanley Goreraza is currently in Zimbabwe, having returned from China.

Meanwhile Russell who got married on Saturday manages his mother’s extensive farm property, Gushungo Dairy Estate which was seized from its former white owners. Nehanda Radio
