I will not be intimidated- Mabhena
BULAWAYO- Norman Mabhena says the Mabhena family will not be intimidated by Zanu PF ruffians into submitting to their psychotic demands days after laying to rest his brother.
Since the burial of Welshman Mabhena, Norman has been receiving threatening calls from Zanu PF activists some speaking in Shona and others in IsiNdebele. The Mabhena family had earlier on insisted and went ahead to bury Welshman at Lady Stanley Cemetery in Bulawayo despite the deceased being declared a national hero.
According to Mabhena, honoring his late brother’s wish by refusing to bury him at the Zanu PF shrine, “alongside thieves and crooks”, did not go down well with some Zanu PF members resulting in the numerous threats.
“They are accusing me of defying the presidents’ order to have Welshman buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare. The problem with the politicians is that while we are mourning our relative they are celebrating a platform to speechify, denounce others and gain political mileage ,” said Mabhena.
Mabhena says the phone calls keep coming in at different intervals but with restricted numbers with only one caller identifying himself only as Ndlovu.
“These people have threatened me with death and it is typical of Zanu PF and the whole world knows it. If l should die the people of Zimbabwe and the world should know that it is them (Zanu PF) that have killed me.”
Norman Mabhena who is MDC secretary for Healing and Integration added that Zimbabweans should know that Zanu PF is a revolutionary party that eats its own children. He said, Zanu PF had ill-treated his brother until his death, dismissing him from office as Governor of Matabeleland North in 2000, without clear reasons and up to today, the family still has not received any explanation.
Mabhena says he is not afraid of the threats as they are just mere threats but if they continue he will report to the police and only hope that the police will act accordingly, given their background of handling politically inclined complaints. The Real Changing Times
