Moses Chunga quits Shooting Stars

By Roy Matiki and Golden Guvamatanga

NOMADIC coach Moses “Bambo” Chunga has quit Shooting Stars barely four months after joining the Joel Sengeredo-owned Premiership soccer side.

Shooting Stars assistant coach Pearson Matipedza told The Herald yesterday that his boss Chunga has left his job at the club, but he referred further questions to the former Gunners coach.

And when contacted yesterday, Chunga confirmed that he had quit Shooting Stars but he was not prepared to shed any light on why he left the club, saying he will comment at the appropriate time.

“I have left the club but at the moment I cannot give (you) the reasons for my decision. When the right time comes I will issue a statement on why I left the club,” Chunga said.

Last night, the Shooting Stars executive, led by chairman Willard Manyengavana, were locked up in an emergency meeting at the club offices in Msasa discussing the departure of Chunga.

They indicated that they would issue a statement later regarding the whole issue. It is, however, understood that Chunga decided to pack his bags after he had gone for some time without receiving his salary.

There were also disturbing reports in the Wild Boys camp that some of their key players have registered their displeasure over the current state of affairs at the club and have since handed in transfer letters to the management.

Chunga, who left reigning Premiership champions Gunners at the beginning of the year, replaced the inseparable duo of Callisto Pasuwa and Lloyd Mutasa at Shooting Stars in March.

He was recently invited on an all-expenses-paid-for trip to watch the opening match of the just-ended World Cup tie pitting South Africa and Mexico.
