A Zimbabwean man who struggled with his English was nearly stabbed by an Algerian man in Bolton, the United Kingdom after a row erupted over an un-emptied rubbish bin.

Twenty-nine year old Mohammed Touati from Algeria grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened to use it on his flatmate, an unnamed Zimbabwean. The two shared a flat in Park Lane in Bolton at the time of the incident.

Language proved a barrier as both clashed over why their communal rubbish bin had not been emptied. Only the intervention of a neighbour who called the police stopped Touati from using the knife.

On Friday Touati, an asylum seeker in the UK, appeared at the Bolton Crown Court. The court heard how the Zimbabwean who only spoke his own language during the incident walked away from the scene only to be followed by the aggressive Algerian.

Touati pleaded guilty to one count of affray and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service. Nehanda Radio
