Maid Vanishes With Baby Twins

Harare — A Glen View maid hired from a city employment agency vanished with two-year -old baby twins, US$250 and property worth US$1 000 from her employer after working for the family for a week.

Patricia Matongo (19) was left at the house alone by her employers last Saturday and took advantage of their absence to steal the property and keys to the house.

The matter has been reported to the police who have since launched a hunt for the suspect.

The owner of the house, Mr Moses Goremusandu, said he hired Matongo from AAD, an employment agency located in the city centre last week and suspected Matongo could have connived with a gang to commit the offence since the goods were reportedly ferried in a car.

“The agency gave her excellent references, but when I told them she had stolen from me, they claimed not to know where she lived,” said Mr Goremusandu.

Narrating his ordeal, Mr Goremusandu said he left for work together with his wife on Saturday, leaving the maid in charge of the house.

A neighbour who saw the maid leaving the house with the goods loaded in a car, alerted him of the crime.

“When I arrived, I found out that my children, money and property were missing, but she left behind her national identity card.

“What I just want from her are my kids and let her keep the rest of the property,” he said.

Identity particulars show that Matongo is from Nyahuni Village under Chief Zimunya in Mutare. Her mother is reportedly looking for her as well. The stolen property includes a Sansui television set, a satellite decoder, a three-piece hi-fi, a Sansui DVD player and compact discs.

According to Mr Goremusandu, Matongo is tall, slim and light in complexion.

In July, a Chitungwiza magistrate slapped a maid with a three-year jail term after she had disappeared with her Hillside employer’s baby and property worth US$3 200.

The maid was later arrested in Murehwa, her rural home, where she had gone into hiding.
