Weakened Warriors beat Somalia

A second string Zimbabwe national team beat Somalia 2-0 in the 2009 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.

The win moves Zimbabwe closer to reaching the quarter-finals of a competition they were invited as guests on the back of their winning this year’s COSAFA cup on home soil.

The team led by former warriors coach Norman Mapeza had drawn 0-0 in their opening match against Eritrea and badly needed the points from this game to progress any further.

Tapiwa Mangezi, the lively winger who helped his club Gunners power to glory in the Zimbabwean Premiership, thrust the Warriors into the lead in the 31st minute.

Skipper Guthrie Zhokinyi, who cannot even find a regular place in the Dynamos defence back home, then made sure of victory with the second goal after the break.
