A member of Robert Mugabe’s feared Presidential Guard stationed in Tsholotsho was this week jailed for 20 months for stealing 30 rounds of ammunition.
Thirty-one year old Tichaona Kamikani gave the ammunition to his co-accused Martin Chinomona and both were offering it for sale at US$10 per round.
Appearing before Harare Magistrate Kudakwashe Jarabini on Wednesday both Chinomona and Kamikani pleaded guilty to possession of firearm ammunition without a licence or permit.
The sentence handed out was 24 months in prison but 4 months were conditionally suspended.
So how was the duo caught?
In November this year detectives from the CID Law and Order Section in Harare received a tip off and sprung a trap pretending to be buyers.
Chinomona led the detectives to his home in Warren Park 1, Harare where he was eventually arrested.
